Overview of Ready To Learn

The core of Ready To Learn is a full day of non-violent, commercial-free, educational children's television programming broadcast free of charge to every American household. Its goal is both simple and profound: to ensure that all children begin school ready to learn. To this end, the daily broadcast on public television includes award-winning programs such as Arthur, Between the Lions, Clifford, Dragon Tales, Reading Rainbow ,and Sesame Street.

Ready To Learn also provides extensive outreach services to parents, teachers, childcare providers and other early childhood professionals. These outreach services include workshops tailored to meet the specific needs of the community. Topics of these interactive sessions include how to use television wisely with children to develop learning skills and preparing children to read. Ready To Learn also publishes free resources such PBS Families/Para la Familia for children and parents. Furthermore, in conjunction with other partners such as the national First Book program, Ready To Learn distributes thousands of new books to local area families every year. Use the links to the right for more details about all aspects of our Ready to Learn services.

Ready To Learn is funded by a Ready To Learn Television Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Department of Education through the Public Broadcasting Service.
